Aprendiendo el idioma de la bienvenida

En Lee Lee’s Life Lessons, creo que la sanación comienza cuando una persona se siente vista.

Quiero que mis vecinos, participantes y posibles clientes hispanos sepan algo importante: los veo. Veo su fortaleza, su valentía, el amor que sienten por sus familias, su fe, su resiliencia y la manera valiente en que siguen adelante a través de los desafíos de la vida.

También veo la barrera del idioma, y estoy trabajando para superarla.

Recientemente terminé Español II en nuestro colegio comunitario local, y espero con ilusión continuar con Español III este otoño. Todavía estoy aprendiendo y me queda mucho camino por recorrer, pero mi corazón está comprometido. Algún día, espero poder comunicarme con ustedes de una manera más completa y natural en español.

Por ahora, los recibiré con lo que tengo: una sonrisa cálida, frases importantes, escucha paciente y, sí, Google Translate cuando lo necesitemos. Estas herramientas quizá no sean perfectas, pero son puentes. Y los puentes importan.

Mi meta no es simplemente “traducir palabras”. Mi meta es crear un espacio donde se sientan bienvenidos, respetados y apoyados en su camino de sanación.

Ya sea que estén atravesando el cáncer, el cuidado de un ser querido, el duelo, la adversidad o una etapa de reconstrucción, quiero que sepan esto: ustedes pertenecen aquí. Su historia importa. Su voz importa. Su cultura importa. Su fortaleza importa.

Estoy aprendiendo español porque quiero servir con más cuidado, más humildad y más conexión. Quiero que nuestros sobrevivientes y familias hispanas sepan que Lee Lee’s Life Lessons es un lugar donde ustedes no son una idea secundaria. Ustedes forman parte del círculo de sanación, esperanza y alegría que estamos construyendo juntos.

Hasta que mi español sea más fuerte, seguiré practicando.

At Lee Lee’s Life Lessons, we believe healing begins with being seen.

I want my Hispanic neighbors, participants, and potential clients to know something important: I see you. I see your strength, your courage, your family love, your faith, your resilience, and the brave way you keep moving forward through life’s challenges.

I also see the language barrier — and I am working to break it.

I recently completed Spanish II at our local community college, and I am looking forward to continuing with Spanish III this fall. I am still learning, and I have a long way to go, but my heart is committed. One day, I hope to communicate with you more fully and naturally in Spanish.

For now, I will meet you with what I have: a warm smile, key phrases, patient listening, and yes — Google Translate when we need it. These tools may not be perfect, but they are bridges. And bridges matter.

My goal is not simply to “translate words.” My goal is to create a space where you feel welcomed, respected, and supported on your healing journey.

Whether you are navigating cancer, caregiving, grief, adversity, or a season of rebuilding, please know this: you belong here. Your story matters. Your voice matters. Your culture matters. Your strength matters.

I am learning Spanish because I want to serve with more care, more humility, and more connection. I want our Hispanic survivors and families to know that Lee Lee’s Life Lessons is a place where you are not an afterthought. You are part of the circle of healing, hope, and joy we are building together.

Until my Spanish is stronger, I will keep practicing.
