A Magical Weekend at Smokey Shadows

I am still holding the warmth of this past weekend at Smokey Shadows in my heart.

What we experienced together was nothing short of magical. Because of the generosity and open hearts present, we raised enough to fully support our Fall retreat for individuals navigating cancer and life’s meaningful transitions.

But more than the funds raised, it was the feeling in the room—the connection, the laughter, the music, the quiet moments of understanding—that made this weekend so special.

A heartfelt thank you to Peter Mayer for sharing his gift so generously. His music and words created a space where so many felt seen, inspired, and uplifted.

To the Friends of Peter Mayer community, your kindness and generosity continue to amaze me. You are truly part of the heartbeat of this work.

To Tracy, Aimee, and the Shinn family—your hospitality created a space where everyone felt welcomed, nourished, and cared for in the most genuine way.

And to Gail Weams, our board member, whose love, vision, and relationship with Peter made this entire gathering possible—thank you. Your presence is a gift to us all.

We are also deeply grateful to our board member, Caitlyn Casson, for her generous offer of a virtual yoga class, extending the spirit of care and connection beyond the weekend itself. We are also grateful for the beautiful, handcrafted jewelry from Spectrum Studios by Shelby, which added such a special, heartfelt touch to our offerings.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many individuals and vendors who so generously donated items to support the fundraiser. Your contributions added richness, warmth, and a true sense of community to the experience.

Special appreciation goes to Poppy’s Popcorn—Asheville’s favorite—for their delicious treats; Point Lookout Vineyards of Hendersonville, along with Gail Weams, for the commemorative wine glasses and bottle stopper (which I was lucky enough to win!); Gina of Blue Mountain Distributors for two beautiful food baskets; Mose for his stunning commemorative wooden bowl; and Tracey of Smokey Shadows Lodge in Maggie Valley, to name just a few.

A very special thank you to Peter Mayer for his extraordinary gift—offering not only his music, but his time. The opportunity to be present with him as he crafts his music is something truly rare and deeply meaningful.

And to the PMG, thank you for sharing your incredible talents and gifts with us. You are a joy, and each performance somehow feels even more special than the last. 💜

As I shared Saturday night, every time I am at Smokey Shadows, something meaningful unfolds. This weekend was no exception. It is a place where joy, healing, and human connection meet. And last, but not least, to the Friends of Peter Mayer Family, you make the magic happen for so many. I am forever grateful to have you as part of our story.

Thank you for believing in this work and for helping create spaces where people can rediscover joy, meaning, and connection.

With gratitude,
Lisa
