Walking Together at Making Strides in Asheville
Saturday brought cold, blustery weather to Asheville, but it didn’t keep people from showing up for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. I was grateful to be there among survivors, families, friends, and community members walking together in support of those affected by breast cancer.
Events like this remind me that support can take many forms. Sometimes it’s a conversation, a shared memory, a hand offered along the route, or simply standing beside someone so they know they don’t have to face cancer alone. Every person who came out carried a story, and every step was a visible expression of care.
My own experience as a cancer survivor has taught me how much community matters. A cancer diagnosis can make life feel uncertain and isolating. Connection doesn’t take away the hard parts, but it can help us meet them with more courage, companionship, and hope.
At Lee Lee’s Life Lessons Foundation, we welcome survivors and thrivers across cancer types. Our Let Us Play™ approach makes room for joy, creativity, meaning, connection, and the many ways people continue to live fully through and beyond adversity. Saturday’s walk was a beautiful reminder that there are many paths to support—and that showing up for one another matters.
Thank you to everyone who walked, cheered, volunteered, remembered a loved one, or helped make the day possible. Even in the cold and wind, the warmth of the community was easy to feel.
Come as you are. Thrive as we go.
