Let Us Play: Thriving With & Beyond Cancer™

A Joy-Centered Healing Framework for Cancer Survivorship

A cancer diagnosis changes everything — but survivorship deserves more than simply “getting through.”

Let Us Play: Thriving With & Beyond Cancer™ is a transformative survivorship program designed to help individuals reconnect with joy, resilience, and meaning through the restorative power of play.

Developed by Stage IV colon cancer survivor and Positive Psychology Practitioner Lisa Caughman, MSc, HHP, CAPP, this program integrates positive psychology, metaphysical awareness, creative expression, and community connection to support emotional and psychological flourishing after cancer.

Across hospitals, survivorship programs, and community wellness initiatives, healthcare leaders are increasingly recognizing that joy, connection, and play are powerful pathways to healing.

Let Us Play™ invites survivors to rediscover vitality, creativity, and meaning in the next chapter of life.

Founder Perspective

Let Us Play™ was born from lived experience.

After surviving Stage IV colon cancer, founder Lisa Caughman, MSc, HHP, CAPP began asking a profound question:

What if healing after cancer required more than medical recovery?

Through her own journey, Lisa discovered that joy, creativity, laughter, and connection were not distractions from healing — they were essential parts of it.

Drawing from her studies in positive psychology, metaphysical science, and human flourishing, Lisa developed the Let Us Play Series™ as a framework to help individuals rediscover vitality and meaning after life-altering experiences.

Today, the Let Us Play™ approach continues to evolve as a joyful pathway to flourishing for individuals navigating cancer survivorship and other profound life transitions.

The Let Us Play Series™ Framework for Cancer Survivorship

Let Us Play: Thriving With & Beyond Cancer™ is the first program developed within the broader Let Us Play Series™, a structured joy-centered healing framework created through Lee Lees Life Lessons™.

The Let Us Play Series™ uses intentional play as a pathway to flourishing, helping individuals reconnect with identity, creativity, and purpose following major life challenges.

The framework integrates:

• Positive Psychology
• The PERMA-V Wellbeing Model
• Mindfulness and embodied awareness
• Creative expression and storytelling
• Community-based healing and connection

At its core, the Let Us Play™ philosophy is simple:

Play restores the human spirit.

What Is the Let Us Play: Thriving With & Beyond Cancer™ Program?

This program is a structured survivorship experience designed to help individuals move beyond the identity of “patient” and rediscover themselves as creators, contributors, and joyful participants in life.

The program blends evidence-informed wellbeing science with lived survivorship and community connection, creating a supportive environment where participants can explore healing through creativity, movement, laughter, and reflection.

Participants are invited to rediscover:

• joy and vitality
• personal meaning
• connection with others
• resilience for the next chapter of life

Why Joy and Play is Important in Cancer Survivorship

Play is not just for children — it is a powerful tool for emotional, physical, and psychological well-being.

Research in positive psychology shows that joyful engagement can help individuals:

• regulate stress
• strengthen social connection
• restore hope and optimism
• rebuild identity beyond illness

For cancer survivors, playful engagement can provide:

✔ A break from the “patient” identity
✔ A natural stress reliever that restores emotional energy
✔ A pathway to resilience and optimism
✔ A meaningful way to build a supportive community

Through joyful experiences, participants rediscover something essential:

They are still alive in ways that go far beyond survival.

Bring Let Us Play™ to Your Organization

Cancer may change the path — but it does not erase the possibility of joy.

Let Us Play™ creates a space where survivors can reconnect with the part of themselves that still longs to laugh, create, move, and live fully.

Because healing is not only about surviving.

Sometimes healing begins when we remember how to play.

Who is The Let Us Play Series™ Framework For?

Healthcare systems, survivorship programs, and community wellness organizations are invited to explore partnership opportunities.

This weekend I had the incredible opportunity to attend the “Let us play” retreat, led by Lisa Caughman “Lee Lee” Payne. What made it so special, wasn't just the beautiful setting, but the people. We were a diverse group of individuals, each with different stories, yet all connected by a common thread; cancer. During my stay, I laughed, cried, and built bonds that felt like they'd been there from the beginning. I was tremendously grateful for the reminder that healing isn't only about the body, but also about community and connection. I left with a renewed sense of belonging and new friendships that I will forever cherish. I would highly recommend this retreat to any cancer survivor or thriver! -Ashleigh Golden
